The fourth Annual Al’s Festival was held on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at the Universal Palms Hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It was the opportunity for the organization to formally introduce the bands/performers and to clarify certain issues regarding the festival.
One must admit that this press conference was quite different from what we are accustomed to. It was more than a simple interaction between the media and the members of the Al and Pedro Lucky organization. They purposely added a twist of showbiz to it. Maybe It’s a precursor of what is to take place at Broward County Regional Park 48 hours from now.
It was a bit after 07:30 pm when Naila F. Jeune and Alix Michel introduced the members of the Organization to the media and what role they will play in the Festival. To our surprise, Mr. Pedro Lucky, the key member of the Organization this year was missing in action. Alix Michel reported that Mr. Lucky was hospitalized earlier today, but a source close to the Organization told TM that Mr. Lucky was in the Hotel during the Press Conference and that he deliberately decided not to come out.
Anyway, we were happy to know that Alix Timer and Luco Desir are responsible for anything that has to do with the stage and the performers, including the line up, which comprised of the following: Rick Ross, Koudjay, Voix des Iles, T-Vice, Nou Krezi. Zenglen, Gracia Delva and Mass Kompa, Magnum Band, Septan Trional, J-Beatz, Suav Mizik, Xtassy, Top Adlerman, Principe and many more.
Soon after, Andre Fouad, a renown Haitian Poet, started the show with a poem about Haiti followed by another poem by Locandia Fenelon: A story about the Haitian Capital, Port au Prince.
We also had a history lesson about the battle of Vertierre and the Haitian flag, all that while the deejay was playing a trac of Wanito.
Finally at 9:00 pm, Mr. Desir and a couple of members of the Organization started to answer a few questions pertinent to the festivities. The highlight of the night was on the status of Mass Kompa. Apparently there was a rumor circulating in Miami that Mass Kompa was denied a visa entry in the USA and that Congressman Gracia Delva will not be able to perform in the festival due to his diplomatic status. Mr. Desir confirmed that there were some technical issues regarding Mass Kompa, but all have been resolved. He stated that Gracia Delva has no problem performing in the Festival and that Mass Kompa will be in Fort Lauderdale no later than Friday, May 18, 2012. We just have to sit and wait.
